Activity    ED50 <1.0 ng/ml (>1 x 106units/mg). The biological activity was determined by measuring the dose-dependent proliferation of TF-1 cells. Cardiotrophin-1 is a member of the IL-6 family of cytokines which includes IL-6, Leukemia Inhibitory Factor, Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor, Oncostatin M and Interleukin 11. The receptor for Cardiotrophin-1 is gp130 (CD130). Cardiotrophin-1 was originally identified by its ability to stimulate cardiac hypertrophy. As with all members of the IL-6 family of cytokines, Cardiotrophin-1 induces hepatic expression of acute phase proteins.
 Endotoxin Level    <0.1 ng/ug

Preparation and Storage    Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or dH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Other Notes    Small volumes of CTF1 recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for CTF1    The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted cytokine that induces cardiac myocyte hypertrophy in vitro. It has been shown to bind and activate the ILST/gp130 receoptor. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]
