Related Product Information for Gfra2 recombinant protein

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and neurturin (NTN) are two structurally related, potent neurotrophic factors that play key roles in the control of neuron survival and differentiation. This protein is a member of the GDNF receptor family. It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol(GPI)-linked cell surface receptor for both GDNF and NTN, and mediates activation of the RET tyrosine kinase receptor. This encoded protein acts preferentially as a receptor for NTN compared to its other family member, GDNF family receptor alpha 1. This gene is a candidate gene for RET-associated diseases. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

NCBI Summary for Gfra2    The protein encoded by this gene is part of the receptor complex that transduces glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor and neurturin signals by mediating autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor. Mice lacking this protein are viable and fertile but display growth retardation attributed to impaired salivary and pancreatic secretion and innervation deficits in the intestinal tract. In addition, knockout mice display neural defects including a failure to initiate outgrowth of dorsal ganglion root neurons, demonstrating a requirement in neuronal differentiation of these cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for Gfra2    Receptor for neurturin. Mediates the NRTN-induced autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor. Also able to mediate GDNF signaling through the RET tyrosine kinase receptor.
