Biological Significance    All three isoforms of GRO are CXC chemokines that can signal through the CXCR1 or CXCR2 receptors. The GRO proteins chemoattract and activate neutrophils and basophils. Recombinant rat GRO-beta/MIP-2 is a 7.9 kDa protein consisting of 73 amino acids including the 'ELR' motif common to the CXC chemokine family that bind to CXCR1 or CXCR2.
Bioactivity    Determined by its ability to chemoattract rat neutrophils using a concentration range of 10.0-100.0 ng/ml.
Endotoxin Levels    Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug).
 Expression System    E Coli

Preparation and Storage    Store at 4 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes    Small volumes of GRO beta recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for GRO beta    This antimicrobial gene is part of a chemokine superfamily that encodes secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of the N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine, a member of the CXC subfamily, is expressed at sites of inflammation and may suppress hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for GRO beta    CXCL2: Produced by activated monocytes and neutrophils and expressed at sites of inflammation. Hematoregulatory chemokine, which, in vitro, suppresses hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. GRO-beta(5-73) shows a highly enhanced hematopoietic activity. Belongs to the intercrine alpha (chemokine CxC) family.

Protein type: Secreted; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q21

Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region

Molecular Function: protein binding; chemokine activity; CXCR chemokine receptor binding

Biological Process: G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; response to molecule of bacterial origin; positive regulation of leukocyte chemotaxis; immune response; response to lipopolysaccharide; inflammatory response; chemotaxis; regulation of cell proliferation
