Product Description specifically for HOXA9 recombinant protein

HOXA9 belongs to the Abd-B homeobox family. This protein is a transcription factor with a central role in both haemopoiesis and leukaemia. High levels of HOXA9 expression in haemopoietic cells is a characteristic feature of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), and may be sufficient to cause this disease. Overexpression of Hoxa 9 markedly expands hematopoietic stem cells. Recombinant human HOXA9 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli.

NCBI Summary for HOXA9    In vertebrates, the genes encoding the class of transcription factors called homeobox genes are found in clusters named A, B, C, and D on four separate chromosomes. Expression of these proteins is spatially and temporally regulated during embryonic development. This gene is part of the A cluster on chromosome 7 and encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor which may regulate gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation. This gene is highly similar to the abdominal-B (Abd-B) gene of Drosophila. A specific translocation event which causes a fusion between this gene and the NUP98 gene has been associated with myeloid leukemogenesis. Read-through transcription exists between this gene and the upstream homeobox A10 (HOXA10) gene.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]

UniProt Comments for HOXA9    HOXA9: Sequence-specific transcription factor which is part of a developmental regulatory system that provides cells with specific positional identities on the anterior-posterior axis. Required for induction of E-selectin and VCAM-1, on the endothelial cells surface at sites of inflammation. A chromosomal aberration involving HOXA9 is found in a form of acute myeloid leukemia. Translocation t(7;11)(p15;p15) with NUP98. A chromosomal aberration involving HOXA9 may contribute to disease progression in chronic myeloid leukemia. Translocation t(7;17)(p15;q23) with MSI2. Belongs to the Abd-B homeobox family.

Protein type: Oncoprotein; DNA-binding

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7p15.2

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; transcription factor complex; cytoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; enzyme binding; sequence-specific DNA binding

Biological Process: embryonic forelimb morphogenesis; negative regulation of myeloid cell differentiation; transcription, DNA-dependent; multicellular organismal development; embryonic skeletal development; male gonad development; uterus development; endothelial cell activation; anterior/posterior pattern formation; mammary gland development; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; single fertilization; spermatogenesis; proximal/distal pattern formation

Research Articles on HOXA9    1. Different gain-of-function and loss-of-function studies reveal that HOXA9 enhances hematopoietic differentiation of embryonic stem cells by specifically promoting the commitment of hemogenic precursors into primitive and total CD45(+) blood cells.
