Biological Significance    Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF/FGF7) is one of 23 known members of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. KGF/FG-7 is a mitogen factor specific for epithelial cells and keratinocytes and signals through FGFR 2b. KGF/FGF7 plays a role in kidney and lung development, angiogenesis, and wound healing.
Bioactivity    The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by KGF-responsive BaF3 cells is approximately 10 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of approximately 1 x 10^5 units/mg.
Endotoxin Levels    Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug).
 Expression System    E Coli

Preparation and Storage    Store at 4 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes    Small volumes of KGF recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for KGF    The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein is a potent epithelial cell-specific growth factor, whose mitogenic activity is predominantly exhibited in keratinocytes but not in fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Studies of mouse and rat homologs of this gene implicated roles in morphogenesis of epithelium, reepithelialization of wounds, hair development and early lung organogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
