Product Description specifically for LEPTIN recombinant protein

Leptin (anti-obesity protein) is the product of the ob (obese) gene in mice, and is involved in appetite control. The gene is expressed in adipose tissue, and is thought to be important in the regulation of fat stores. Mice of ob/ob genotype develop a form of diabetes similar to type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes.

UniProt Comments for LEPTIN    leptin: May function as part of a signaling pathway that acts to regulate the size of the body fat depot. An increase in the level of LEP may act directly or indirectly on the CNS to inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure as part of a homeostatic mechanism to maintain constancy of the adipose mass. Defects in LEP may be a cause of obesity (OBESITY). It is a condition characterized by an increase of body weight beyond the limitation of skeletal and physical requirements, as the result of excessive accumulation of body fat. Belongs to the leptin family.

Research Articles on LEPTIN    1. we have shown for the first time that, similar to leptin, bioactive leptin-related synthetic peptide analogs activate STAT3 via phosphorylation of serine and tyrosine residues by multiple signal transduction pathways.
