NCBI Summary for PSY2
This gene encodes phytoene synthase, the first enzyme in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway which converts geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP)to phytoene. This gene is one of the three phytoene synthase genes found in tomato. phytoene synthase 2 is specific to chloroplast-containing tissues and may be responsible for foliar carotenoid formation.
