 Molecular Weight Note    Native human VEGF is generated by the proteolytic removal of the signal peptide and propeptide, the molecule has a calculated molecular mass of approximately 19 kDa. Recombinant Vascular endothelial growth factor is a disulfide-linked homodimer protein consisting of 165 amino acid residue subunits, and migrates as an approximately 38 kDa protein under non-reducing and as 19kDa under reducing conditions in SDS-PAGE.

 Preparation and Storage    The lyophilized protein is stable for at least 2 years from date of receipt at -20 degree C.
Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2 degree - 8 degree C for one month, or at -20 degree C for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity.

Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
 Other Notes    Small volumes of VEGF recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

   VEGF is a homodimeric heavily glycosylated protein.The human factor occurs in several molecular variants of 121, 162, 145, 148, 165, 183, 189, 206 amino acids, arising by alternative splicing of the mRNA.The splice forms of VEGF differ in biological properties such as the receptor types, which they recognize and their interaction with heparan sulfate proteoglycans. The 165 amino acid form of the factor is the most common form in most tissues. Kaposi sarcomas express VEGF121 and VEGF165.

 NCBI Summary for VEGF    This gene is a member of the PDGF/VEGF growth factor family and encodes a protein that is often found as a disulfide linked homodimer. This protein is a glycosylated mitogen that specifically acts on endothelial cells and has various effects, including mediating increased vascular permeability, inducing angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth, promoting cell migration, and inhibiting apoptosis. Elevated levels of this protein is linked to POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome. Mutations in this gene have been associated with proliferative and nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants, encoding either freely secreted or cell-associated isoforms, have been characterized. There is also evidence for the use of non-AUG (CUG) translation initiation sites upstream of, and in-frame with the first AUG, leading to additional isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
