UniProt Comments for Cnga1
CNGA1: a cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channel of rod cells in the retina. Visual signal transduction is mediated by a G-protein coupled cascade using cGMP as second messenger. Activated by cGMP which leads to an opening of the cation channel and thereby causing a depolarization of rod photoreceptors. CNG ion channels exist in the retinal, olfactory and cochlear sensory neurons.
