NCBI Summary for HDAC11
This gene encodes a class IV histone deacetylase. The encoded protein is localized to the nucleus and may be involved in regulating the expression of interleukin 10. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]
UniProt Comments for HDAC11
HDAC11: Responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). Histone deacetylation gives a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Histone deacetylases act via the formation of large multiprotein complexes. Belongs to the histone deacetylase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: EC 3.5.1.98; Deacetylase
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3p25.1
Cellular Component: histone deacetylase complex; nucleus; plasma membrane
Molecular Function: histone deacetylase activity; transcription factor binding
Biological Process: chromatin modification; histone deacetylation
