NCBI Summary for MAPRE1    The protein encoded by this gene was first identified by its binding to the APC protein which is often mutated in familial and sporadic forms of colorectal cancer. This protein localizes to microtubules, especially the growing ends, in interphase cells. During mitosis, the protein is associated with the centrosomes and spindle microtubules. The protein also associates with components of the dynactin complex and the intermediate chain of cytoplasmic dynein. Because of these associations, it is thought that this protein is involved in the regulation of microtubule structures and chromosome stability. This gene is a member of the RP/EB family.  UniProt Comments for MAPRE1    EB1: a microtubule-associated protein of the RP/EB family. Binds to the APC protein which is often mutated in familial and sporadic forms of colorectal cancer. Localizes to microtubules, especially the growing ends, in interphase cells. Associates with the centrosomes and spindle microtubules during mitosis. Also associates with components of the dynactin complex and the intermediate chain of cytoplasmic dynein. May be involved in the regulation of microtubule structures and chromosome stability.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20q11.1-q11.23

Cellular Component: cell-cell adherens junction; centrosome; cortical microtubule cytoskeleton; cytoplasm; cytosol; microtubule; spindle

Molecular Function: identical protein binding; microtubule plus-end binding; protein binding; protein C-terminus binding

Research Articles on MAPRE1    1. The authors show that the microtubule binding protein EB1 (end-binding protein 1), a key regulator of microtubule dynamics, can bind directly to filamentous actin (F-actin) F-actin.
