The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing VCAM-1. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9374647 kit is based on VCAM-1 antibody-VCAM-1 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect VCAM-1 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, VCAM-1. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. This gene is a member of the Ig superfamily and encodes a cell surface sialoglycoprotein expressed by cytokine-activated endothelium. This type I membrane protein mediates leukocyte-endothelial cell adhesion and signal transduction, and may play a role in the development of artherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Three alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2010]
