UniProt Comments for NCU00552

Function: Phytoene desaturase involved in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. Converts phytoene into 3,4-didehydrolycopene via the intermediary of phytofluene, zeta-carotene, neurosporene and lycopene, by introducing up to five double bonds into phytoene. Ref.3 Ref.4

Catalytic activity: 15-cis-phytoene + 5 acceptor = all-trans-3,4-didehydrolycopene + 5 reduced acceptor.

Cofactor: NAD. Ref.3

Pathway: Carotenoid biosynthesis; lycopene biosynthesis.

Subcellular location: Membrane; Single-pass membrane protein

Potential.

Induction: By photoinduction.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the carotenoid/retinoid oxidoreductase family.

Biophysicochemical propertiesKinetic parameters:KM=30 µM for phytoene Ref.3KM=32 µM for lycopene
