Other Notes

Small volumes of ftsK recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for ftsK

Function: Essential cell division protein that coordinates cell division and chromosome segregation. The N-terminus is involved in assembly of the cell-division machinery. The C-terminus functions as a DNA motor that moves dsDNA in an ATP-dependent manner towards the difSL recombination site, which is located within the replication terminus region

By similarity. Required for activation of the XerS recombinase, allowing activation of chromosome unlinking by recombination. Ref.2 Ref.3

Subunit structure: Homohexamer. Forms a ring that surrounds DNA

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein

By similarity. Note: Located at the septum. Ref.2

Domain: Consists of an N-terminal domain, which is sufficient for the localization to the septal ring and is required for cell division, followed by a linker domain, and a C-terminal domain, which forms the translocation motor involved in chromosome segregation. The C-terminal domain can be further subdivided into alpha, beta and gamma subdomains. The alpha and beta subdomains form the DNA pump, and the gamma subdomain is a regulatory subdomain

By similarity. The DNA motor and the gamma subdomain are both required to activate XerS recombinase. Ref.3

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the FtsK/SpoIIIE/SftA family.Contains 1 FtsK domain.
