Other Notes

Small volumes of COL18A1 elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS139722 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip-or-full plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Endostatin (COL18A1) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing COL18A1. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS139722 kit is based on COL18A1 antibody-COL18A1 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect COL18A1 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, COL18A1. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for COL18A1

This gene encodes the alpha chain of type XVIII collagen. This collagen is one of the multiplexins, extracellular matrix proteins that contain multiple triple-helix domains (collagenous domains) interrupted by non-collagenous domains. The proteolytically produced C-terminal fragment of type XVIII collagen is endostatin, a potent antiangiogenic protein. Mutations in this gene are associated with Knobloch syndrome. The main features of this syndrome involve retinal abnormalities, so type XVIII collagen may play an important role in retinal structure and in neural tube closure. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2008]

UniProt Comments for COL18A1

COL18A1: COLA18A probably plays a major role in determining the retinal structure as well as in the closure of the neural tube. Defects in COL18A1 are a cause of Knobloch syndrome type 1 (KNO1). An autosomal recessive disorder defined by the occurrence of high myopia, vitreoretinal degeneration with retinal detachment, macular abnormalities and occipital encephalocele. Belongs to the multiplexin collagen family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative promoter.
