Twisted Gastrulation Protein (TSG) Human Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS140881

Introduction: Twisted gastrulation Protein (TSG) is a secreted, cysteine-rich protein which has a role in dorsal/ventral patterning in Drosophila and Xenopus by regulating BMP signaling. TSG functions as an agonist for BMP signaling by controlling the… More details

Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Biological Activity
The ED50, as measured by its ability to inhibit alkaline phosphatase production induced by rHuBMP-6 in mouse ATDC5 cells, is less than 16 ug/ml.
Solubility
It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized TSG in sterile 18M-cm H2O not less than 100 ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of TSG active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for TSG

TWSG1: May be involved in dorsoventral axis formation. Seems to antagonize BMP signaling by forming ternary complexes with CHRD and BMPs, thereby preventing BMPs from binding to their receptors. In addition to the anti-BMP function, also has pro-BMP activity, partly mediated by cleavage and degradation of CHRD, which releases BMPs from ternary complexes. May be an important modulator of BMP-regulated cartilage development and chondrocyte differentiation. May play a role in thymocyte development. Belongs to the twisted gastrulation protein family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide
