Form/Format
The Pleiotrophin protein was lyophilized from a 0.2 um filtered concentrated solution in PBS, pH 7.4.
Sterile Filtered White lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.
Purity/Purification
Greater than 97.0% as determined by: (a) Analysis by RP-HPLC. (b) Analysis by SDS-PAGE.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized Pleiotrophin although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18 degree C. Upon reconstitution Pleiotrophin should be stored at 4 degree C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18 degree C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P21246
Solubility
It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Pleiotrophin in sterile 18M-cm H2O not less than 100 ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of PTN recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for PTN

PTN: Secreted growth factor that induces neurite outgrowth and which is mitogenic for fibroblasts, epithelial, and endothelial cells. Binds anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) which induces MAPK pathway activation, an important step in the anti- apoptotic signaling of PTN and regulation of cell proliferation. Belongs to the pleiotrophin family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q33

Cellular Component: extracellular space; endoplasmic reticulum

Molecular Function: heparin binding; growth factor activity; protein phosphatase inhibitor activity

Biological Process: nervous system development; positive regulation of cell division; positive regulation of cell proliferation; negative regulation of catalytic activity; learning; transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase signaling pathway; bone mineralization
