NCBI Summary for NUPL1

This gene encodes a member of the nucleoporin family that shares 87% sequence identity with rat nucleoporin p58. The protein is localized to the nuclear rim and is a component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). All molecules entering or leaving the nucleus either diffuse through or are actively transported by the NPC. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for NUPL1

NUPL1: a nuclear pore protein. Component of the p62 complex which includes NUP62, NUP54, and NUPL1. Interacts with NUTF2, and with KPNA2 and KPNB1 proteins when they are together, but not with KPNA2 alone. Located in the central region of the nuclear pore complex, biased towards thecytoplasmic side. Contains FG repeats. Three isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Nuclear import; Nucleoporin

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 13q12.13

Cellular Component: nuclear envelope; nuclear membrane; nuclear pore; protein complex

Molecular Function: nuclear localization sequence binding; nucleocytoplasmic transporter activity; protein binding

Biological Process: carbohydrate metabolic process; cellular protein metabolic process; cytokine and chemokine mediated signaling pathway; gene expression; glucose transport; hexose transport; mitotic cell cycle; mitotic nuclear envelope disassembly; modification by virus of host cellular process; mRNA transport; nucleocytoplasmic transport; post-translational protein modification; protein heterotetramerization; protein homooligomerization; protein sumoylation; protein transport; regulation of protein import into nucleus; RNA-mediated gene silencing; transmembrane transport; tRNA processing; viral infectious cycle; viral reproduction; viral transcription; virus-host interaction
