Other Notes

Small volumes of ACPP enzyme vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Proteins are activated with phosphate (kinases) and deactivated by acid phosphatase activity. The major prostate localized phosphatase is prostatic acid phosphatase PAP/ ACP. This human protein has been sequence determined and is known to be elevated in disease states like prostate cancer. Unlike cell secretase activity which cleaves proteins to inactivate them, PAP and related ACPP, APP, APHA and APPA homologues remove PO4 groups making them attractive therapeutic target candidates. By their activity they areinferred to undo close protein-protein interactions leading to cellular signaling shutdown. WB are the best test for phospho specific states but modern combination experimental techniques such as tandem LC MS increase detection. Add that to newly developed experimental computational analyses and actual or inferred protein sequence data, and high powered pathway analysis become possible. At MyBiosource, we strive to use all available PMC free resources to aid inferred combinatorial experimentation to unravel key cellular pathways.

NCBI Summary for ACPP

This gene encodes the beta subunit of lysosomal acid phosphatase (LAP). LAP is chemically and genetically distinct from red cell acid phosphatase. The encoded protein belongs to a family of distinct isoenzymes which hydrolyze orthophosphoric monoesters to alcohol and phosphate. LAP-deficiencies in mice cause multiple defects including bone structure alterations, lysosomal storage defects in the kidneys and central nervous system, and an increased tendency towards seizures. An enzymatically-inactive allele of LAP in mice exhibited a more severe phenotype than the null allele, and defects included cerebellum abnormalities, growth retardation, hair-follicle abnormalities, and an ataxia-like phenotype. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014]

UniProt Comments for ACPP

ACP2: Defects in ACP2 are a cause of acid phosphatase deficiency (ACPHD). The clinical features are intermittent vomiting, hypotonia, lethargy, opisthotonos, terminal bleeding, and death in early infancy. Lysosomal acid phosphatase is deficient in cultured fibroblasts and multiple tissues. Belongs to the histidine acid phosphatase family.
