Specificity
This item specifically recognises the repetitive Gly-Ala region of EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus) nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA-1), a viral protein expressed consistently by EBV- associated malignancies.

Epstein-Barr Virus, also known as HHV-4 (Human herpesvirus 4), is a member of the herpesvirus family and one of the most common infectious viruses known, being responsible for a wide range of illnesses from infectious mononucleosis to nasal-pharyngeal cancer. EBNA-1 is the only viral protein expressed during group 1 latency and mediates the replication and partitioning of the episome during host cell division, binding to a replication origin (oriP) within the viral genome. The Gly-Ala repeat recognized by This item, inhibits the host's CD8-restricted cytotoxic T-cell response to infected cells, by impairing antigen processing and MHC class I-restricted antigen presentation.

This item is reported as being suitable for use in immunocytochemistry.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-BKRF1 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for BKRF1

Plays an essential role in replication and partitioning of viral genomic DNA during latent viral infection. During this phase, the circular double-stranded viral DNA undergoes replication once per cell cycle and is efficiently partitioned to the daughter cells. EBNA1 activates the initiation of viral DNA replication through binding to specific sites in the viral latent origin of replication, oriP. Additionally, it governs the segregation of viral episomes by mediating their attachment to host cell metaphase chromosomes. Also activates the transcription of several viral latency genes. Finally, it can counteract the stabilization of host p53/TP53 by host USP7, thereby decreasing apoptosis and increasing host cell survival.
