Specificity
This item specifically recognises mouse interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1 alpha), a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine and member of the IL-1 superfamily, secreted by activated macrophages and monocytes, which mediates a wide range of immune and inflammatory responses.

IL-1 alpha and closely related IL-1 beta, are both involved in haematopoiesis and exhibit many identical immunomodulatory properties, binding to the same type I interleukin-1 receptor, also known as CD121a.

Clone Flo1 can be used in functional studies to neutralize the activity of 125pg/ml of recombinant mouse IL-1 alpha by 95%, as tested using mouse D10(N4)M T-helper cells.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C only. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-Il1a antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for Il1a

IL1A: Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells. Belongs to the IL-1 family.
