Immunohistochemistry (IHC) of anti-RHO antibody

Anti-Rhodopsin / RHO antibody IHC staining of human retina. Immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue after heat-induced antigen retrieval. Antibody concentration 10 ug/ml.
Mouse Anti-RHO Monoclonal Antibody – Cat# MBS249482

Immunocytochemistry (ICC) of anti-RHO antibody

High magnification confocal image of pig retinal section stained with Rhodopsin / RHO antibody (Green). Rhodopsin is most abundant in the rod outer segments (ROS) of retina, clearly localized in rod membranes. The rod inner segments (RIS) and rod nuclei in the outer nuclear layer (ONL) are also seen in this image. Nuclear DNA was stained with DAPI (blue).
Mouse Anti-RHO Monoclonal Antibody, Immunocytochemistry (ICC) – Cat# MBS249482

Western Blot (WB) of anti-RHO antibody

Blot of bovine retinal extracts probed with Rhodopsin / RHO antibody. The antibody stains a band corresponding to retinal rhodopsin at about 35kDa. Bands about 70 kDa and 140 kDa are aggregated forms of rhodopsin. Note, due to the highly hydrophobic nature of rhodopsin, it important to avoid boiling samples containing this protein it in SDS-PAGE sample buffer, as this will result in even more extensive aggregation of the rhodopsin protein and appearance of more of this high molecular weight material.
Mouse Anti-RHO Monoclonal Antibody, Western Blot (WB) – Cat# MBS249482

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-RHO antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for RHO

Retinitis pigmentosa is an inherited progressive disease which is a major cause of blindness in western communities. It can be inherited as an autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X-linked recessive disorder. In the autosomal dominant form, which comprises about 25% of total cases, approximately 30% of families have mutations in the gene encoding the rod photoreceptor-specific protein rhodopsin. This is the transmembrane protein which, when photoexcited, initiates the visual transduction cascade. Defects in this gene are also one of the causes of congenital stationary night blindness. UniProt Comments for RHO

Rhodopsin: a G-protein coupled receptor. The light-absorbing visual pigment in Rod photoreceptor cells. Mediates vision in dim light. Consists of the apoprotein, opsin, covalently linked to cis-retinal. Defects in RHO are a cause of autosomal retinitis pigmentosa and congenital stationary night blindness.
