Potassium Channel Subfamily U Member 1 (KCNU1) ELISA Kit for Human

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS280611

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate KCNU1 in samples. An antibody specific for KCNU1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyKCNU1 present is bound by the… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of KCNU1 elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS280611 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip-or-full plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Potassium channel subfamily U member 1 (KCNU1) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing KCNU1. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS280611 kit is based on KCNU1 antibody-KCNU1 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect KCNU1 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, KCNU1. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for KCNU1

This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel family of proteins. The encoded voltage-gated ion channel allows the outward flow of potassium ions during plasma membrane hyperpolarization in sperm. Opening of this channel may be regulated by calcium ion levels. Homozygous knockout mice that lack the related mouse gene exhibit male sterility. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]

UniProt Comments for KCNU1

KCNU1: Testis-specific potassium channel activated by both intracellular pH and membrane voltage that mediates export of K(+). May be involved in sperm capacitation and/or the acrosome reaction, essential steps in fertilization where changes in both intracellular pH and membrane potential are known to occur. In contrast to KCNMA1/SLO1, it is not activated by Ca(2+) or Mg(2+). Belongs to the potassium channel family. Calcium- activated (TC 1.A.1.3) subfamily. KCa5.1/KCNU1 sub-subfamily.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8p11.23

Cellular Component: plasma membrane; voltage-gated potassium channel complex

Molecular Function: large conductance calcium-activated potassium channel activity; potassium channel activity; voltage-gated potassium channel activity

Biological Process: sperm-egg recognition
