Mucin-7 (MUC7) ELISA Kit for Human

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS284587

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MUC7 in samples. An antibody specific for MUC7 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMUC7 present is bound by the… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of MUC7 elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

MBS284587 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip-or-full plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Mucin-7 (MUC7) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing MUC7. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS284587 kit is based on MUC7 antibody-MUC7 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect MUC7 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, MUC7. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for MUC7

This gene encodes a small salivary mucin, which is thought to play a role in facilitating the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and to aid in mastication, speech, and swallowing. The central domain of this glycoprotein contains tandem repeats, each composed of 23 amino acids. This antimicrobial protein has antibacterial and antifungal activity. The most common allele contains 6 repeats, and some alleles may be associated with susceptibility to asthma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5' UTR, but encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014]

UniProt Comments for MUC7

MUC7: May function in a protective capacity by promoting the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and aiding in mastication, speech, and swallowing. Binds P.aeruginosa pili. Genetic variations in MUC7 are associated with susceptibility to asthma (ASTHMA). The most common chronic disease affecting children and young adults. It is a complex genetic disorder with a heterogeneous phenotype, largely attributed to the interactions among many genes and between these genes and the environment. It is characterized by recurrent attacks of paroxysmal dyspnea, with weezing due to spasmodic contraction of the bronchi.
