Nestin (NES) Antibody – Mouse

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS397289

Nestin is a big intermediate filament protein that was originally described by Hockfield and Kay (1) as a protein that predominantly exists in stem cells of the nervous system. During differentiation of the nervous system the expression of nestin is reduced.… More details

NCBI Summary for NES

This gene encodes a member of the intermediate filament protein family and is expressed primarily in nerve cells. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]

UniProt Comments for NES

Required for brain and eye development. Promotes the disassembly of phosphorylated vimentin intermediate filaments (IF) during mitosis and may play a role in the trafficking and distribution of IF proteins and other cellular factors to daughter cells during progenitor cell division. Required for survival, renewal and mitogen-stimulated proliferation of neural progenitor cells ().
