Recombinant Human Placental Lactogen
Product Gene Name
Product Synonym Names
Placental Lactogen Human; Placental Lactogen Human Recombinant; Chorionic Somatomammotropin Hormone 1; CSH1; Choriomammotropin; Lactogen; CSH2; PL; CSA; CSMT; FLJ75407; Placental Lactogen
Sequence
The sequence of the first six N-terminal amino acids was determined and was found to be Ala-Val-Gl n-Thr-Val- Pro
Host
E Coli
Form/Format
The protein was lyophilized from a concentrated (1mg/ml) solution with 0.02-0.03% NaHCO3.
Sterile Filtered White lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.
Purity/Purification
Greater than 99.0% as determined by: (a) Analysis by Gel Filtration. (b) Analysis by SDS-PAGE.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized Placental Lactogen Human Recombinant although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18 degree C. Upon reconstitution Placental Lactogen should be stored at 4 degree C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18 degree C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P01243
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Solubility
It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Placental Lactogen in sterile water or 0.4% NaHCO3 adjusted to pH 8-9, not less than 100 ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions, preferably in presence of carrier protein.
Protein Content
UV spectroscopy at 280 nm using the absorbency value of 0.73 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics).
Biological Activity
Placental Lactogen Human is biologically active as evidenced by inducing proliferation of Nb2 cells.

Other Notes

Small volumes of CSH1 active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for CSH1

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones and plays an important role in growth control. The gene is located at the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17 along with four other related genes in the same transcriptional orientation; an arrangement which is thought to have evolved by a series of gene duplications. Although the five genes share a remarkably high degree of sequence identity, they are expressed selectively in different tissues. Alternative splicing generates additional isoforms of each of the five growth hormones, leading to further diversity and potential for specialization. This particular family member is expressed mainly in the placenta and utilizes multiple transcription initiation sites. Expression of the identical mature proteins for chorionic somatomammotropin hormones 1 and 2 is upregulated during development, although the ratio of 1 to 2 increases by term. Mutations in this gene result in placental lactogen deficiency and Silver-Russell syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
