Application Notes for anti-SLC2A8 antibody
Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 32000.
Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave bands at approx 80kDa and 35kDa in Human Peripheral Blood Mononucleocyte lysates after 0.5ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the bands we observe given the calculated size of 50.8kDa according to NP_055395.2. Both detected bands were successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide (and BLAST results with the immunizing peptide sequence did not identify any other proteins to explain the additional bands).

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-SLC2A8 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for SLC2A8

This gene belongs to the solute carrier 2A family, which includes intracellular glucose transporters. Based on sequence comparison, the glucose transporters are grouped into three classes and this gene is a member of class II. The encoded protein, like other members of the family, contains several conserved residues and motifs and 12 transmembrane domains with both amino and carboxyl ends being on the cytosolic side of the membrane. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2012]

UniProt Comments for SLC2A8

SLC2A8: Insulin-regulated facilitative glucose transporter. Binds cytochalasin B in a glucose-inhibitable manner. Seems to be a dual-specific sugar transporter as it is inhibitable by fructose. Belongs to the major facilitator superfamily. Sugar transporter (TC 2.A.1.1) family. Glucose transporter subfamily.

Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Transporter; Membrane protein, integral; Transporter, SLC family

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q33.3

Cellular Component: cytoplasmic vesicle membrane; integral to plasma membrane; lysosomal membrane; plasma membrane; synaptic vesicle

Molecular Function: D-glucose transmembrane transporter activity; glucose binding; glucose transmembrane transporter activity; sugar:hydrogen ion symporter activity
