Applications Tested/Suitable for anti-SPAG16 antibody
Peptide ELISA (EIA)
Application Notes for anti-SPAG16 antibody
Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 32000.
Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave bands at approx 55kDa and 22kDa in Human Testis lysates after 0.3ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the bands we observe given the calculated size of 70.8kDa according to NP_078808.3. Both detected bands were successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide (and BLAST results with the immunizing peptide sequence did not identify any other proteins to explain the additional bands).

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-SPAG16 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for SPAG16

Cilia and flagella are comprised of a microtubular backbone, the axoneme, which is organized by the basal body and surrounded by plasma membrane. SPAG16 encodes 2 major proteins that associate with the axoneme of sperm tail and the nucleus of postmeiotic germ cells, respectively (Zhang et al., 2007 [PubMed 17699735]).[supplied by OMIM, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for SPAG16

SPAG16: Necessary for sperm flagellar function. Plays a role in motile ciliogenesis. May help to recruit STK36 to the cilium or apical surface of the cell to initiate subsequent steps of construction of the central pair apparatus of motile cilia. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q34

Cellular Component: axoneme; cytoplasm; cytoskeleton; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein kinase binding

Biological Process: axoneme biogenesis; cilium biogenesis; microtubule sliding; sperm axoneme assembly
