Monoclonal
Isotype
IgG1
Clone Number
SHBG/245
Host
Mouse
Species Reactivity
Human
Form/Format
200ug/ml of Ab purified from Bioreactor Concentrate by Protein A/G. Prepared in 10mM PBS with 0.05% BSA & 0.05% azide. Also available WITHOUT BSA & azide at 1.0mg/ml.
Specificity
Recognizes a protein of 45kDa, identified as SHBG. It functions as an androgen transport protein, but may also be involved in receptor-mediated processes. Each dimer binds one molecule of steroid. It is specific for 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, testosterone, and 17-beta-estradiol. SHBG regulates the plasma metabolic clearance rate of steroid hormones by controlling their plasma concentration. In testis, it is synthesized by the Sertoli cells, secreted into the lumen of the seminiferous tubule and transported to the epididymis.
Preparation and Storage
Antibody with azide - store at 2 to 8 degree C. Antibody without azide - store at -20 to -80 degree C. Antibody is stable for 24 months. Non-hazardous. No MSDS required.
Molecular Weight
45kDa
OMIM

3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P04278
Cellular Localization
Cytoplasmic & Extracellular (Secreted)
Immunogen
Recombinant full-length human SHBG protein
Hu-Chromosome Location
17p13.1
Positive Control
Liver, Placenta or Testis
Applications Tested/Suitable for anti-SHBG antibody
Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin
Application Notes for anti-SHBG antibody
Flow Cytometry (0.5-1ug/million cells in 0.1ml)
Immunofluorescence (0.5-1ug/ml)
Immunohistochemistry (Formalin-fixed) (1-2ug/ml for 30 minutes at RT) (Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM Tris with 1mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes)

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-SHBG antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for SHBG

This gene encodes a steroid binding protein that was first described as a plasma protein secreted by the liver but is now thought to participate in the regulation of steroid responses. The encoded protein transports androgens and estrogens in the blood, binding each steroid molecule as a dimer formed from identical or nearly identical monomers. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with polycystic ovary syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. UniProt Comments for SHBG

SHBG: Functions as an androgen transport protein, but may also be involved in receptor mediated processes. Each dimer binds one molecule of steroid. Specific for 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, testosterone, and 17-beta-estradiol. Regulates the plasma metabolic clearance rate of steroid hormones by controlling their plasma concentration. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
