Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor (aFGF) Human Recombinant Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS553019

aFGF and bFGF display 55% homology which is limited, however, to a few functional domains. The structure of aFGF, revealed by X-ray crystallography, shows a similar folding structure as IL1. Because aFGF binds to the same receptor as bFGF, aFGF displays more… More details

Host Note
Optimized DNA sequence encoding Human acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor mature chain was expressed in Escherichia Coli.
Endotoxin
Endotoxin content was assayed using a LAL gel clot method.
Endotoxin level was found to be less than 0.1 ng/ug (1EU/ug).
Reconstitution
A quick spin of the vial followed by reconstitution in distilled water to a concentration not less than 0.1 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other buffers.
Molecular Weight Note
Native human aFGF, generated by the proteolytic removal of the signal peptide
and propeptide, the molecule has a calculated mass of 16 kDa.

Recombinant FGF acidic is a disulfide-linked monomer protein consisting of 141 amino acids and migrates as an approximately 16 kDa protein under reducing and non-reducing conditions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of aFGF recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for aFGF

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein functions as a modifier of endothelial cell migration and proliferation, as well as an angiogenic factor. It acts as a mitogen for a variety of mesoderm- and neuroectoderm-derived cells in vitro, thus is thought to be involved in organogenesis. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

UniProt Comments for aFGF

FGF1: Plays an important role in the regulation of cell survival, cell division, angiogenesis, cell differentiation and cell migration. Functions as potent mitogen in vitro. Monomer. Homodimer. Interacts with FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3 and FGFR4. Affinity between fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and their receptors is increased by heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycans that function as coreceptors. Found in a complex with FGFBP1, FGF1 and FGF2. Interacts with FGFBP1. Part of a Cu(2+)-dependent multiprotein aggregate containing FGF1, S100A13 and SYT1. Interacts with SYT1. Interacts with S100A13. Belongs to the heparin-binding growth factors family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
