Product Overview

Online Datasheet in PDF
Product Name
Interleukin-18 (IL-18), Active Protein
Full Product Name
Human Interleukin-18 Recombinant
Product Gene Name
Product Synonym Names
IGIF; IL1F4; IL18; il-18
Host
E Coli (Host protein expression may be lot-specific and can be subject to change during production, including bulk orders)
Form/Format
Recombinant Interleukin-18 was lyophilized from 0.2 um filtered PBS solution pH 7.4.
Purity/Purification
>92%, as determined by SDS-PAGE and HPLC
Preparation and Storage
The lyophilized protein is stable for at least 1 year from date of receipt at -20°C. Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2°-8°C for one month, or at -20° C for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
OMIM

3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for Q14116
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Source Note
Optimized DNA sequence encoding Human Interleukin-18 mature chain was expressed in Escherichia Coli
Presentation
Recombinant Interleukin-18 was lyophilized from 0.2 um filtered PBS solution pH 7.4.
Biological Activity
The ED(50) was determined by the dose-dependent proliferation ofhuman PBMC co-stimulated with IL-12 cells was found to be in the range of 5ng/ml.
Reconstitution
A quick spin of the vial followed by reconstitution in distilled water to a concentration not less than 0.1 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other buffers.
Endotoxin
Endotoxin content was assayed using a LAL gel clot method. Endotoxin level was found to be less than 0.1 ng/µg(1EU/µg).
Molecular Weight Note
Native human Interleukin-18, generated by the proteolytic removal of the signal peptide and propeptide, the molecule has a calculated molecular mass of approximately 18 kDa. Recombinant Interleukin-18 is a disulfide-linked monomer protein consisting of 158 amino acid residue subunits, migrates as an approximately 18 kDa protein under non-reducing and reducing conditions in SDS-PAGE.

Other Notes

Small volumes of IL-18 active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for IL-18

The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine that augments natural killer cell activity in spleen cells, and stimulates interferon gamma production in T-helper type I cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]
