Interleukin-18 Binding Protein (Il-18bp) (IL18BP) Human Recombinant Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS553250

IL-18BP is a secreted protein that binds IL-18 with high affinity and prevents its interaction with the IL-18R. Different isoforms of IL-18BP have been demonstrated, four in human and two in the murine system, and biological activity is limited to particular… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of IL18BP recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for IL18BP

The protein encoded by this gene functions as an inhibitor of the proinflammatory cytokine, IL18. It binds IL18, prevents the binding of IL18 to its receptor, and thus inhibits IL18-induced IFN-gamma production, resulting in reduced T-helper type 1 immune responses. This protein is constitutively expressed and secreted in mononuclear cells. Elevated level of this protein is detected in the intestinal tissues of patients with Crohn's disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]
