GAP43 Antibody

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS555041

GAP-43 (growth associated protein 43 kDa; also known as neuromodulin) is a 24 kDa, neuron growth cone-associated member of the neuromodulin family. Apparently due to its tertiary structure, it runs anomalously at 43 kDa on SDS-polyacrylamide gel. Rat GAP-43… More details

Testing Data of anti-GAP43 antibody

Image: E18 hippocampal neurons grown for four days and stained in the green channel with monoclonal antibody to Growth Associated Protein 43 (GAP43) an abundant protein of neuronal membranes especially concentrated in axonal membranes and growth cones. GAP43 is heavily palmitoylated in the Golgi, so this antibody can be used to localize the neuronal Golgi complex. Blue stain is DAPI and reveals cell nuclei of these neuronal cells. Protocol on data-sheet.

Testing Data of anti-GAP43 antibody

Image: Western blot of whole rat spinal cord lysates probed with mouse monoclonal antibody to GAP43 in lane 16 and another similar antibody in lane 17. Dots in middle of strips indicate position of 50kDa and 37kDa protein bands. Note that the strong single band running at about 43kDa corresponds to GAP43.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-GAP43 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for GAP43

GAP43: This protein is associated with nerve growth. It is a major component of the motile growth cones that form the tips of elongating axons. Plays a role in axonal and dendritic filopodia induction. Identified in a complex containing FGFR4, NCAM1, CDH2, PLCG1, FRS2, SRC, SHC1, GAP43 and CTTN. Binds calmodulin with a greater affinity in the absence of Ca(2+) than in its presence. Belongs to the neuromodulin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cell surface

Cellular Component: filopodium membrane; axon; postsynaptic density; cell junction

Molecular Function: calmodulin binding

Biological Process: cell fate commitment; glial cell differentiation; regulation of growth; axon choice point recognition; regulation of filopodium formation
