MAP2 Antibody

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS555602

Microtubules are associated with a family of proteins called microtubule associated proteins (MAPs), which includes the protein tau and a group of proteins referred to as MAP1, MAP2, MAP3, MAP4 and MAP5. MAP2 is made up of two ~280kDa apparent molecular… More details

UniProt Comments for MAP2

MAP2: a member of the microtubule-associated protein (MAP) family. Its exact function is unknown but MAPs appear to stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules. Expressed at high levels in neural tissue and the prostate. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q34-q35

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; microtubule associated complex; neuron projection; nucleolus

Molecular Function: microtubule binding; protein binding

Biological Process: central nervous system neuron development; dendrite morphogenesis; microtubule cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis; neurite development
