Procedure
Chickens were immunized with recombinant Protein A and egg yolks were collected. An IgY enriched fraction was prepared, antibody was immunoaffinity purified off an antigen containing immunosorbent and conjugated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Antibody concentration was determined prior to conjugation using an absorbance at 280 nm: 1.32 equals 1.0 mg of IgY.

Other Notes

Function: Fimbriae (also called pili), polar filaments radiating from the surface of the bacterium to a length of 0.5-1.5 micrometers and numbering 100-300 per cell, enable bacteria to colonize the epithelium of specific host organs.

Subunit structure: K88 fimbria, 0.1-1 micrometer in length and 7 nanometers in diameter, is composed of about 100 identical subunits.
