PRL-1 Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS566697

PRL phosphatases comprise a class of small oncogenic phosphatases that are prenylated at their carboxyl-termini. PRL-1 is overexpressed during cell proliferation in the liver and during differentiation of epithelial cells in the digestive tract. It augments… More details

NCBI Summary for PRL-1

This gene encodes a member of a small class of prenylated protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), which contain a PTP domain and a characteristic C-terminal prenylation motif. The encoded protein is a cell signaling molecule that plays regulatory roles in a variety of cellular processes, including cell proliferation and migration. The protein may also be involved in cancer development and metastasis. This tyrosine phosphatase is a nuclear protein, but may associate with plasma membrane by means of its prenylation motif. Pseudogenes related to this gene are located on chromosomes 1, 2, 5, 7, 11 and X. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]

UniProt Comments for PRL-1

PTP4A1: Protein tyrosine phosphatase which stimulates progression from G1 into S phase during mitosis. May play a role in the development and maintenance of differentiating epithelial tissues. Enhances cell proliferation, cell motility and invasive activity, and promotes cancer metastasis. Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family.

Protein type: EC 3.1.3.48; Protein phosphatase, tyrosine (non-receptor); Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6q12

Cellular Component: internal side of plasma membrane; endoplasmic reticulum; early endosome; cytoplasm; spindle

Molecular Function: protein tyrosine phosphatase activity

Biological Process: multicellular organismal development; cell cycle; positive regulation of cell migration
