Microphthalmia (MITF) Antibody – Mouse Monoclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS600026

Mi is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucin zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) transtripotion factor implicated in pigmentation, mast cells and bone development. The mutation of Mi causes Waardenburg Syndrome type II in humans. In mice, a profound loss of pigmented cells in the… More details

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-Mitf antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for Mitf

basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper transcription factor; may play a role in osteoclast function [RGD, Feb 2006]

UniProt Comments for Mitf

MITF: a transcription factor that contains both basic helix-loop-helix and leucine zipper structural features. Plays a critical role in the differentiation of various cell types including neural crest- derived melanocytes, mast cells, osteoclasts and optic cup-derived retinal pigment epithelium. Two isoforms are known: the M-isoform is expressed exclusively in melanocytes, while the A-isoform has a much broader range of expression. Mutations in MITF can lead to Waardenburg syndrome. Ten alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Protein type: Transcription factor; Oncoprotein; DNA-binding

Cellular Component: protein complex; nucleus

Molecular Function: RNA polymerase II transcription factor activity, enhancer binding; protein dimerization activity; DNA binding; chromatin binding; transcription factor activity

Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; Wnt receptor signaling pathway; cell fate commitment; camera-type eye development; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; osteoclast differentiation; bone remodeling; regulation of cell proliferation; regulation of osteoclast differentiation; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; pigmentation; regulation of gene expression; melanocyte differentiation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; protein complex assembly; cell differentiation; negative regulation of apoptosis
