The first aminoglycoside was streptomycin. Streptomycin was created from the fungus like bacterium Streptomyces griseus. Streptomycin's ototoxic potential was recognized quite early. In response, researchers modified the drug's molecule and created dihydrostreptomycin. Unlike its predecessor, dihydrostreptomycin is much more cochleotoxic than it is vestibulotoxic. It is almost exactly as cochleotoxic as streptomycin is vestibulotoxic. Dihydrostreptomycin is an antibiotic consisting of a hydrogenated form of streptomycin. It is used against tuberculosis, tularemia and Gram-negative organisms.

Small volumes of anti-Dihydrostreptomycin antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap.
