EDG-8 is a 398aa seven transmembrane receptor that binds the lysolipid phosphoric acid mediator, sphingosine 1-phosphate. Extracellular portions of human EDG-8 show 96% and 97% aa identity with mouse and rat EDG-8, respectively. Isoform 1 is expressed at a low level in peripheral tissues. Isoform 2 has an alternate C- terminal that is 88aa shorter and is expressed mainly in brain, spleen, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. EDG-8 is upregulated in large granular lymphocytic leukemias.
