Ire1p (IRE1) Antibody – Rabbit Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS610790

Accumulation of malfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) activates the unfolded protein response UPR) and the upregulation of the ER molecular chaperones GRP78 and GRP 94 (1,2). These proteins are normally bound to ER transmembrane proteins such… More details

UniProt Comments for IRE1

Function: Senses unfolded proteins in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum via its N-terminal domain which leads to enzyme auto-activation. The active endoribonuclease domain splices HAC1 precursor mRNA to produce the mature form which then induces transcription of UPR target genes. Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7

Catalytic activity: ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.

Cofactor: Magnesium.

Enzyme regulation: The kinase domain is activated by trans-autophosphorylation. Kinase activity is required for activation of the endoribonuclease domain. Ref.5

Subunit structure: Homodimer; in response to the accumulation of unfolded proteins. Ref.5 Ref.6

Subcellular location: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.

Post-translational modification: Autophosphorylated mainly on serine residues. Ref.6

Miscellaneous: Present with 259 molecules/cell in log phase SD medium. Ref.8

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. Ser/Thr protein kinase family.Contains 1 KEN domain.Contains 1 protein kinase domain.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAB68894.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.
