OAZ1 Antibody – Goat Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS620970

The protein encoded by this gene is a nuclear protein that belongs to the family of Kruppel-like C2H2 zinc finger proteins. It functions as a DNA-binding transcription factor by using distinct zinc fingers in different signaling pathways. Thus, it is thought… More details

NCBI Summary for OAZ1

Ornithine decarboxylase catalyzes the conversion of ornithine to putrescine in the first and apparently rate-limiting step in polyamine biosynthesis. The ornithine decarboxylase antizymes play a role in the regulation of polyamine synthesis by binding to and inhibiting ornithine decarboxylase. Antizyme expression is auto-regulated by polyamine-enhanced translational frameshifting. The antizyme encoded by this gene inhibits ornithine decarboxylase and accelerates its degradation. UniProt Comments for OAZ1

OAZ1: Binds to, and destabilizes, ornithine decarboxylase which is then degraded. Also inhibits cellular uptake of polyamines by inactivating the polyamine uptake transporter. SMAD1/OAZ1/PSMB4 complex mediates the degradation of the CREBBP/EP300 repressor SNIP1. Belongs to the ODC antizyme family. 1 isoforms of the human protein are produced by ribosomal frameshifting.

Protein type: Inhibitor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p13.3

Cellular Component: cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor activity

Biological Process: transport; polyamine biosynthetic process; negative regulation of catalytic activity; positive regulation of protein catabolic process; regulation of amino acid metabolic process
