Streptavidin Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS634860

Streptavidin is a biotin-binding protein which binds 4 moles of biotin per mole of protein under high affinity(Kd~10e-15). Due to the lack of carbonate side chains present on avidin and a neutral isoelectric point, streptavidin maintains less non-specific… More details

Product Overview

Online Datasheet in PDF
Product Name
Streptavidin, Active Protein
Full Product Name
Streptavidin (Streptomyces avidinii)
Form/Format
Supplied as a lyophilized powder in sodium chloride.
Purity/Purification
Molecular Biology Grade
Single band (SDS-PAGE)
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Molecular Weight
55kD
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Source
Streptomyces avidinii, MW:55kD (4 similar polypeptide chains)
CAS Number
9013-20-1
Specific Activity
15.0u/mg Protein (HABA)
19.9u/mg Protein (biotin titration)
Extinction Coefficient
[1%, 280 nm]
32
Protein Content
~0.9mg protein/mg lyophilizate
Dissociation Constant for Biotin
~10e-15M
Reconstitution
Reconstitute in sterile ddH2O or 1mM sodium bicarbonate buffer, pH 9, at twice the desired final protein concentration. The protein may then be diluted with an equal volume of 2X buffer to produce a stock solution. Upon standing some turbidity may develop in certain buffers. Centrifugation will usually yield a clear solution with negligible loss of streptavidin.
Application Notes for Streptavidin active protein
Suitable for use in Enzyme conjugates and complexes, Southern Blots, DNA and RNA analysis, Western Blots and Protein Purification. Other applications not tested.

Other Notes

Small volumes of Streptavidin active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
