Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Biological Activity
rHuPTH is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The activity calculated by UMR106 cell/cAMP method corresponding to a specific activity of 1.0 x 10e4 Units/mg.
Dimers and Aggregates
1% as determined by silver-stained SDS-PAGE gel analysis.
Endotoxin Level
0.1ng/ug (IEU/ug) of rHuPTH.
Protein Content
Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods:
1. UV spectroscopy at 280nm.
2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of PTH as a Reference Standard.
Reconstitution
Reconstitute the lyophilized rHuPTH in sterile 18M -cm H2O not less than 100ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of PTH active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for PTH

The protein encoded by this gene is a hormone secreted by parathyroid cells. This hormone elevates blood Ca2+ level by dissolving the salts in bone and preventing their renal excretion. Defects in this gene are a cause of familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (FIH). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for PTH

PTH: PTH elevates calcium level by dissolving the salts in bone and preventing their renal excretion. Stimulates [1-14C]-2- deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) transport and glycogen synthesis in osteoblastic cells. Defects in PTH are a cause of familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (FIH); also called autosomal dominant hypoparathyroidism or autosomal dominant hypocalcemia. FIH is characterized by hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia due to inadequate secretion of parathyroid hormone. Symptoms are seizures, tetany and cramps. FIH exist both as autosomal dominant and recessive forms of hypoparathyroidism. Belongs to the parathyroid hormone family.
