Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Activity
The biological activity of recombinant human LIF is measured by its ability to stimulate the differentiation of the M1 mouse myeloid leukemic cell line. The specific activity is 1x10e8 units/mg, where 50 units is defined as the amount of mouse LIF required to induce differentiation in 50% of the M1 colonies in 1ml agar cultures.

Other Notes

Small volumes of LIF active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for LIF

The protein encoded by this gene is a pleiotropic cytokine with roles in several different systems. It is involved in the induction of hematopoietic differentiation in normal and myeloid leukemia cells, induction of neuronal cell differentiation, regulator of mesenchymal to epithelial conversion during kidney development, and may also have a role in immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface. UniProt Comments for LIF

Function: LIF has the capacity to induce terminal differentiation in leukemic cells. Its activities include the induction of hematopoietic differentiation in normal and myeloid leukemia cells, the induction of neuronal cell differentiation, and the stimulation of acute-phase protein synthesis in hepatocytes.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Pharmaceutical use: In phase II clinical trial. The drug is being developed by Amrad to assist embryo implantation in women who have failed to become pregnant despite assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the LIF/OSM family.
