Transforming Growth Factor Beta2 (TGFB2) Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS650502

TGF-B is a multifunctional polypeptide growth factor. While specific receptors for this protein have been found on almost all mammalian cell types, the effect of the molecule varies depending on the cell type and growth conditions. Generally, TGF-B is… More details

Product Overview

Online Datasheet in PDF
Product Name
Transforming Growth Factor beta2 (TGFB2), Active Protein
Full Product Name
Transforming Growth Factor beta2, Recombinant, Human (TGFb2, Polyergin, Cetermin, G-TSF, Glioblastoma-derived T-cell suppressor factor, BSC-1 cell growth inhibitor)
Product Gene Name
Form/Format
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from sodium citrate buffer, pH 3.5. Sterile filtered prior to lyophilization. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O to a concentration of 0.1-1mg/ml. Do not vortex.
Purity/Purification
Highly Purified
~98% (SDS-PAGE, HPLC). Purified by sequential chromatography.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile dH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Molecular Weight
25.0kD, 112 amino acid residues
Chromosome Location
Chromosome: 1; NC_000001.10 (218519391..218617961). Location: 1q41

ModBase 3D Structure for P61812
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Biological Activity
ED50 0.2ng/ml (5x10e6units/mg), determined by its ability to inhibit the mouse IL-4 dependent proliferation of mouse HT-2 cells. TGF-b2 has growth inhibitory action and regulates the proliferation and differentiation of normal and transformed cells. Differential expression of TGF isoforms is observed in certain disease states. Human PC-3 prostatic carcinoma cell line and human glioblastoma cell lines predominantly secrete the TGF-b2 isoform over the other isoforms.
Endotoxin Level
~0.1ng/ug

Other Notes

Small volumes of TGFB2 active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for TGFB2

This gene encodes a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) family of cytokines, which are multifunctional peptides that regulate proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, migration, and other functions in many cell types by transducing their signal through combinations of transmembrane type I and type II receptors (TGFBR1 and TGFBR2) and their downstream effectors, the SMAD proteins. Disruption of the TGFB/SMAD pathway has been implicated in a variety of human cancers. The encoded protein is secreted and has suppressive effects of interleukin-2 dependent T-cell growth. Translocation t(1;7)(q41;p21) between this gene and HDAC9 is associated with Peters' anomaly, a congenital defect of the anterior chamber of the eye. The knockout mice lacking this gene show perinatal mortality and a wide range of developmental, including cardiac, defects. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq]
