Interleukin 1 Alpha (IL1A) Active Protein

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS650776

IL-1alpha is a non-secreted proinflammatory cytokine produced in a variety of cells including monocytes, tissue macrophages, keratinocytes and other epithelial cells. Both IL-1alpha and IL-1beta binds to the same receptor and has similar if not identical… More details

Product Name
Interleukin 1 alpha (IL1A), Active Protein
Full Product Name
Interleukin 1 alpha, Recombinant, Mouse (IL-1a, Hematopoietin-1, Lymphocyte-activating Factor, LAF, Endogenous Pyrogen, Leukocyte Endogenous Mediator, LEM, Mononuclear Cell Factor, MCF)
Product Gene Name
Host
E Coli
Form/Format
Lyophilized from 1mM Tris buffer solution. May also be supplied as a liquid.
Purity/Purification
Highly Purified
98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses.
Preparation and Storage
-20 degree C
Stability: The lyophilized protein, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0 degree C. Reconstituted murine IL-1a should be stored in working aliquots at -20 degree C.
Molecular Weight
17.9kD
Chromosome Location
Chromosome: 2; NC_000002.11 (113531492..113542971, complement). Location: 2q14

ModBase 3D Structure for P01583
Active Protein Note
Protein activity can be an ambiguous term. Please refer to the data sheet or inquire with Technical Support to determine the definition of activity for this product.
Biological Activity
Murine IL-1a is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of murine D10S cells is 0.002ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 5x10e8 units/mg.
Endotoxin Level
0.1ng/ug
Reconstitution
Lyophilized murine IL-1a is soluble in water and most aqueous buffers. The lyophilized protein can be reconstituted in water to a concentration of 100ug/ml. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions or stored at -20 degree C for future use. For most in vitro applications, IL-1a exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1 to 10.0 ng/ml.

Other Notes

Small volumes of IL1A active protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for IL1A

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This cytokine is a pleiotropic cytokine involved in various immune responses, inflammatory processes, and hematopoiesis. This cytokine is produced by monocytes and macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed and released in response to cell injury, and thus induces apoptosis. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. It has been suggested that the polymorphism of these genes is associated with rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer's disease. [provided by RefSeq]

UniProt Comments for IL1A

Function: Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.

Subunit structure: Monomer.

Subcellular location: Secreted. Note: The lack of a specific hydrophobic segment in the precursor sequence suggests that IL-1 is released by damaged cells or is secreted by a mechanism differing from that used for other secretory proteins.

Domain: The similarity among the IL-1 precursors suggests that the amino ends of these proteins serve some as yet undefined function.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-1 family.
