Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) Agar has proved to be effective in the cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms, including many types of pathogens. BHI Agar is currently recommended as a general medium for aerobic bacteria and for the primary recovery of fungi from clinical specimens. BHI Agar, with 10% Sheep Blood can be used to isolate systemic fungi that may grow poorly on nonenriched media. A high recovery rate for Histoplasma capsulatum can be obtained with the addition of horse blood to the medium.

Small volumes of Brain Heart Infusion Agar culture media vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
