Specificity
Human CD49f
CD49f is the 150 kDa integrin alpha6 chain which associates noncovalently with the integrin beta1 subunit (CD29) and with the integrin beta4 (CD104) chain to form, respectively, the very late antigen-6 (VLA-6) and alpha6beta4 integrin heterodimers. VLA-6 is expressed on thymocytes, T lymphocytes, monocytes and platelets. CD49f/CD29 expression is upregulated on activated T lymphocytes and memory T cells. VLA-6 serves as the laminin receptor on platelets, monocytes and T cells. VLA-6-mediated binding to laminin provides a costimulatory signal to T cells for activation and proliferation.1-3
Preparation and Storage
The purified antibody (UNLB) is supplied as 0.1 mg purified immunoglobulin in 1.0 mL of phosphate buffered saline containing 0.1% PBS/NaN3 and a stabilizing agent. Store at 2-8 degree C.
Characterization
To insure lot-to-lot consistency, each batch of product is tested by flow cytometry to conform to characteristics of a standard reference reagent.
Warning
Reagents contain sodium azide which is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copious amounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodium azide yields toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide-containing compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead or copper plumbing.
