CART Antibody – Mouse Monoclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS690941

CART, also known as cocaine and amphetaminerelated transcript, is a 10 kDa secreted polypeptide produced by neuronal cell types in a variety of locations. In human, the molecule is synthesized as a 116 amino acid (aa) precursor with a 27 aa signal sequence an… More details

NCBI Summary for CART

This gene encodes a secreted protein which is processed by prohormone/proprotein convertases to produce smaller, biologically active peptides. Expression of the transcript for this gene is regulated by certain drugs such as cocaine, and the encoded protein is thought to be involved in the regulation of appetite and stress. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to obesity.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

UniProt Comments for CART

Function: Satiety factor closely associated with the actions of leptin and neuropeptide y; this anorectic peptide inhibits both normal and starvation-induced feeding and completely blocks the feeding response induced by neuropeptide Y and regulated by leptin in the hypothalamus. It promotes neuronal development and survival in vitro. Ref.6

Subcellular location: Secreted

Potential.

Tissue specificity: Hypothalamus. Found in neurons of the ventrolateral part of the arcuate nucleus, in the external zone of the median eminence, and also found in terminals in the periventricular part of the paraventricular nucleus.

Induction: By leptin.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the CART family.
