NT-4 Antibody – Goat Polyclonal

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Catalog #: MBS691159

NT-4 is a neurotrophic factor structurally related to beta-NGF, BDNF, and NT-3. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. NT-4 is expressed in the prostate, thymus, placenta and skeletal muscle.… More details

Western Blot: To detect human NT-4 by Western Blot analysis this antibody can be used at a concentration of 0.1-0.2 ug/ml. Used in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents the detection limit for recombinant human NT-4 is 1.5-3.0 ng/lane, under either reducing or non-reducing conditions.

Other Notes

Small volumes of anti-NT-4 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for NT-4

This gene is a member of a family of neurotrophic factors, neurotrophins, that control survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. The expression of this gene is ubiquitous and less influenced by environmental signals. While knock-outs of other neurotrophins including nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and neurotrophin 3 prove lethal during early postnatal development, NTF5-deficient mice only show minor cellular deficits and develop normally to adulthood. UniProt Comments for NT-4

Function: Target-derived survival factor for peripheral sensory sympathetic neurons.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Highest levels in prostate, lower levels in thymus, placenta, and skeletal muscle. Expressed in embryonic and adult tissues.

Involvement in disease: Glaucoma 1, open angle, O (GLC1O) [MIM:613100]: A form of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). POAG is characterized by a specific pattern of optic nerve and visual field defects. The angle of the anterior chamber of the eye is open, and usually the intraocular pressure is increased. However, glaucoma can occur at any intraocular pressure. The disease is generally asymptomatic until the late stages, by which time significant and irreversible optic nerve damage has already taken place.Note: Disease susceptibility may be associated with variations affecting the gene represented in this entry.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the NGF-beta family.
